CAPABILITY

A 4X4 FIRST AND FOREMOST

The Wrangler 4xe system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine to bring out the best in already proven JeepĀ® Brand 4x4 capability. A 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component. The sealed and waterproof battery pack and electronics even perform in tough conditions like fording creeks and streams up to 30 inches in depth.

POWER THROUGH

Climb over tough obstacles and go an electrifying 0-60 mph in 6 seconds. A plug-in hybrid turbocharged engine gives the Wrangler 4xe an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant torque for heart-pounding performance off-road and on-road.

CHARGING MADE SIMPLE

REGENERATIVE BRAKING

This feature allows the battery to be charged when decelerating and braking. The Max Regeneration feature remaps the accelerator pedal to command more aggressive regen at low pedal positions. It allows you to slow the vehicle down without the brake pedal, but a complete stop always requires the brake pedal. It also stays selected until you turn it off.

POWER AT THE READY

The Jeep Brand is teaming with Electrify America and establishing a Jeep 4xe Charging Network that's available at no extra cost for owners of the most Eco-Friendly Wrangler ever. These charging stations powered either directly by the electrical grid or by solar panel units are being installed around the country over the next year near Badge of Honor off-road trailheads, including the iconic Moab, Rubicon Trail, and Big Bear vehicle trails.

RANGE

UNCOMPROMISED CAPABILITY

The Wrangler 4xe is the Industry's First Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle with a Front and Rear Locking Differential. Its system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine. A 17-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component.

SAY GOODBYE TO RANGE ANXIETY

Whether you want to take off-road adventure to new places or simply get around town on all-electric power, the Wrangler 4xe is ready with an EPA estimated 49 MPGe rating. E-Selec driving modes that utilize Power Routing enable you to optimize performance while eliminating range anxiety.

HYBRID TECHNOLOGY

ESAVE MODE

eSave Mode prioritizes the 2.0L engine. This saves the battery charge for later use. When power demand is low, the engine shuts off. It can also be reconfigured to increase the battery charge as well.

ELECTRIC MODE

When the battery has more than a 1% charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles.

What is the hybrid setup of the Wrangler 4xe?

Not only does the Wrangler 4xe provide outstanding fuel economy, but the power is also increased! The power of the 4xe begins with a 2.0-Liter turbocharged Inline-4 cylinder engine. In addition, the engine is equipped with two electric generators. One generator is mounted to the top of the cylinder head, while the other is placed in front of the transmission. The generators are powered by a 400-volt battery pack found underneath the back seat. This combination provides the Wrangler 4xe with a 370-mile total driving range, a fully electric driving range of 21 miles, and a combined 49 MPG. Furthermore, the Wrangler 4xe pumps out 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque for a 0-60 time of just six seconds. To give drivers control over the 4xe's usage, Jeep created the E-Selec buttons. Hybrid mode is the default which uses electric and gas power, while Electric mode disengages the gas engine and uses only electric power for 21 miles of zero-emissions silent driving. Conversely, E-Save mode disables the electric motors, allowing them to charge while the gas engine propels the vehicle. Lastly, the Wrangler 4xe employs a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drivetrain.

What are some features of the Wrangler 4xe lineup?

The Wrangler 4xe lineup is equipped similarly to the higher trim levels of the gas-powered Wranglers. For instance, the base-level Sahara 4xe features leather-trimmed upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.4-inch Uconnect 4 touchscreen with Hybrid Pages, Apple/Android smartphone integration, Alpine premium audio with 9 speakers, push-button start. Standard exterior features include keyless entry, a removable hardtop and doors, a fold-down windshield, body-colored fender flares, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Just like the gas-powered Wrangler, the Rubicon trim provides a whole new level of all-terrain capability. The Rubicon's capability features include Rock-Trac 4x4, electronic locking front and rear differentials, an electronic disconnecting front sway bar, FOX suspension, high-clearance trapezoidal fender flares, 33-inch all-terrain tires, the Off-Road+ button, and interior and exterior Surf Blue accents. The top-shelf High Altitude trim adds premium features to the Sahara trim like quilted Nappa leather-trimmed upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 20-inch Gloss Black wheels, and LED exterior lighting.

Is the Wrangler 4xe still capable of off-roading?

Absolutely! In fact, the hybrid power doesn't hinder the off-road capability; it unlocks even more of it! The main reason behind the 4xe's added capability is the instant availability of 470 lb-ft of torque. Electric generators allow for instant torque from a dead stop, meaning from zero revolutions per minute, all 470 lb-ft of torque is available the second you hit the gas pedal. Not only does this make merging on the highway a breeze, but it also helps with off-roading. This is because, with instant torque, you can get the wheels to move without having to build up the RPMs, allowing you to remain in control at low speeds. Additionally, the Wrangler 4xe is still a Wrangler. So it still comes with the Dana 44 heavy-duty axles, a full-time 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case, a high-strength steel frame, underbody skid plates, and tow hooks. If your off-road adventures lead you to deep puddles or a stream, you may think that electricity and water do not mix. This is why all electrical connections are tightly sealed, the electric generators are insulated, and the waterproof battery pack is sealed under the rear seat, protected from the elements. This, along with the highly placed air intake, provides up to 30 inches of water fording ability.
